Overview

Hot Options identifies unusual options activity that may signal upcoming large price moves or institutional positioning. It tracks unusual volume, large block trades, and shifts in the put/call ratio across the market.

Interpreting Options Flow

  • High Vol/OI ratio indicates unusual activity at that strike/expiration
  • Large call volume suggests bullish positioning or hedging of short positions
  • Large put volume suggests bearish positioning or portfolio hedging
  • Block trades (very large single orders) often represent institutional activity
  • Watch for sweeps (aggressive orders across multiple exchanges) as high-conviction signals

How to Use

  • Scan for stocks with unusually high options volume relative to historical averages
  • Check the sentiment column to understand the directional bias of the flow
  • Cross-reference with the stock's earnings date (unusual pre-earnings activity is common)
  • Use as a supplementary signal alongside fundamental and technical analysis

Warning

Options flow data reflects activity, not guaranteed outcomes. Large options positions can be hedges, speculative bets, or part of complex multi-leg strategies. Do not treat flow data as a directional recommendation.

Combining with Other Tools

  • For deeper options analysis, open Options Lab to view GEX, volatility surface, and volume/OI for the same symbol
  • Use Options Flow for real-time flow and live sentiment monitoring
  • Cross-reference unusual call activity with Short Interest — heavy call buying on high-SI stocks may accelerate squeezes
  • Check Earnings Tracker to see if unusual options activity is pre-earnings positioning
