Price action evaluation using trend, momentum, and fair value analysis

Open in App

Overview

Technical Ranking evaluates price action using three dimensions: Trend, Momentum, and Fairness (fair value estimate). It produces an overall Technical Score (0-10) along with a directional Trade Direction signal.

Sub-Score Components

Trend Score

Analyzes the stock's position relative to key moving averages and trendlines. Measures whether the stock is in an uptrend, downtrend, or sideways consolidation. Accounts for ~50% of the technical score.

Momentum Score

Measures the strength and velocity of recent price moves using RSI, MACD, rate of change, and other momentum indicators. Accounts for ~30% of the technical score.

Fairness Score

Estimates whether the current price represents a reasonable entry relative to recent trading ranges and technical fair value. Accounts for ~20% of the technical score.

Trade Direction

The Trade Direction is an algorithmic signal derived from the technical analysis. It provides a directional bias ranging from Strong Buy to Strong Sell.

SignalMeaning
Strong BuyStrong bullish technical setup across multiple indicators
BuyPositive technical outlook with favorable trend and momentum
NeutralMixed signals or consolidation phase
SellNegative technical outlook with deteriorating indicators
Strong SellStrong bearish setup across multiple indicators

How to Use

  • Sort by Technical Score to find stocks with the strongest price action
  • Look for High Trend + High Momentum + "Buy" direction for strong setups
  • Use the Fairness score to assess if the entry price is reasonable
  • Filter by Trade Direction to focus on bullish or bearish setups only
  • Compare with the Fundamental Ranking for a multi-dimensional view

Combining with Other Tools

  • High Technical + High Fundamental = strong multi-factor candidate (check Composite Ranking)
  • Use the Screener Technical view to find stocks with strong trend and momentum scores
  • Use Market Regimes to determine whether momentum or mean-reversion strategies are more appropriate
  • Check ALEEP Signals for ML confirmation on technically strong stocks
